In this post, I will tell you the easiest way to create an artificial flower wall backdrop by purchasing floral mats/tiles, making your floral panel, and my top tips for when and where to buy flowers!
How To Create A Flower Wall Backdrop On A Budget
Floral Mats/Tiles
The easiest way to create a flower wall backdrop is to purchase floral mats/tiles.
These are fantastic because you do not have to spend multiple hours assembling floral heads onto plastic panels or foam boards.
JOANN is my TOP secret for the most cost-effective way to create a beautiful flower wall backdrop on a tight budget.
Cheap Flower Wall Backdrop: JOANN Fabric and Craft Store
Once a year, between February and March, JOANN releases their Bright Idea’s Spring Floral Mats. They usually run for $19.99/mat, but they often have deals that will bring the price down to $7.99/mat or even $5.99/mat!
I jumped on the $5.99/mat deal and bought 25 pieces to make a 6.5 x 6.5 ft flower wall.
Overall, I spent $163.98, including tax and shipping!!!
The quality and arrangement of the flowers were gorgeous, but they only come in specific colors such as white, green, peach, or pink.
But don’t let the limited color selection stop you! You can always purchase these mats as a base and then add on other flowers.
Like I said before, these floral mats come around once a year, and if you do not plan, you could easily miss this opportunity.
Flower Wall Panels from Michaels
A second option would be to look into Michaels’ flower wall panels.
Michaels carries an array of simple floral tiles. However, just like JOANN, their tiles are only seasonal.
While I find JOANN’s floral panels to be far more superior, Michaels offers simple tiles that can be your base. This strategy will be a little more costly but will allow you to add a personal touch to your backdrop, which is still a win in my book!

Flower Wall Backdrop on Amazon, eBay, and Alibaba

Floral mats on these sites are more expensive, but you have more freedom with colors and floral arrangements.
Sometimes you will find floral panel sets for a great deal on Amazon! Check this 8′ x 4′ flower wall!
I searched on eBay for my wedding and bought ivory floral mats embellished with gold leaves from a producer located in China.

I spent about $500 on an 8 x 10 ft wall.
The wall came out beautiful, but the quality of the flowers was not excellent, and the mats had multiple bald spots that needed additional flowers.
Overall, I spent around $800 after adding more flowers from Dollar Tree, Joann’s, and Michaels.

The wall was stunning, and our guests loved it. But the downside to buying online is you can’t evaluate the quality of the flowers or the fullness of the mat.
Create Your Own Artificial Flower Wall Arrangements Using Flower Wall Plastic Panels
Creating your floral mats/tiles is budget-friendly if you have no time limit. You have complete freedom to make your own artificial flower wall arrangements.
All you need is plastic panels and floral heads of your choice.
Make sure there is a hole at the stem of the floral heads to attach them to the plastic grids easily. If your floral crowns do not have a cavity, you may have to glue them on instead.
This is the most tedious and time-consuming option, but it delivers stunning results with a personal touch.
Artificial Flowers
It’s no surprise; Dollar Tree is my top place to buy inexpensive flowers! The quality is not always the best; however, they have a tremendous floral selection.
If you are searching for a realistic-looking flower, Joann’s and Michaels are the best places to look.
Tip: Always hunt for coupon codes and deals before purchasing at Joann’s or Michaels. You will be surprised by how much you can save!
Realistic-Looking Flowers: Ling’s Moment
My favorite realistic-looking flowers are from Ling’s Moment if you do not have a Joann’s or Michaels near you. They carry a great variety of foam flowers that appear very realistic.

One thing to note is that these flowers do not have holes in the stem. So, if you will use these for a flower wall, I suggest cutting the stem flat and hot gluing the flower onto the grid.

The Dollar Tree, Joann’s, and Michaels rotate their floral line throughout the year based on the upcoming season.
So, if you are looking for pastel-colored flowers, start browsing the floral aisles during Winter and Spring seasons.
Nude and deep red colors usually appear around Summer and Fall.
And brighter colors pop up during Spring and Summer.
Purchasing flowers from Amazon, eBay, or Alibaba is also a great option because they offer a variety of flowers all year round.
